Regions using ECO-Management for eco-innovation development (Interreg IVC – 2012-2014).
Small and medium-sized enterprises are the driving force behind the development of new products and services. Many of them have established and certified quality systems according to the ISO 9000 series, environmental management systems according to the ISO 14000 standard and an established system of innovations and inventions. In the field of energy, the ISO 50000 standard for energy management systems is currently being implemented. The EMAS standard also applies to the environment in the EU, which is broader than ISO 14001, as public reporting is mandatory within the framework of this standard. Companies that have established these systems have a method of continuous improvement according to the Deming cycle built into their organizational structure. In this project, in addition to presenting the advantages of EMAS, we wanted to help small and medium-sized enterprises establish an eco-innovation system as a permanent and continuous way of improving procedures and processes. The transfer of knowledge and experience took place through an Austrian partner, as Austria is one of the leading countries in the EU in the field of establishing EMAS systems and eco-innovation. The final result of the three-year project is a national strategy for the introduction of EMAS and eco-innovation.
