LAG Rural Wealth:  PURE INTO NATURE

  • Lead partner: LEA Spodnje Podravje
  • Other partners: Ptuj School Center, Ptuj Biotechnical School
  • Project value: EUR 20,753.37
  • Approved funds: EUR 13,356.68
  • Project duration: 1.9.2020 – 31.12.2021

Project summary:

Nature conservation and environmental protection have gained in importance in recent decades and the state of the environment has also improved significantly in recent years. However, many challenges remain, including the preservation of water quality, which is strongly affected by wastewater discharges into the environment, the most obvious of which is wastewater from households and public facilities and service activities. Basically, municipal wastewater is discharged through sewage systems, where it is properly treated at municipal wastewater treatment plants before being discharged into nature, but there are still many places in Slovenia without a regulated public sewage network, where household owners have to take care of household wastewater themselves.

Small municipal wastewater treatment plants (MKČN) offer the possibility of purifying water to the point where it can be released into nature. A type of MKČN is also plant-based wastewater treatment plants (RČN), which represent a simple purification technology that completely imitates natural processes in its operation. They do not require electricity for their operation, as is the case with other wastewater treatment plants. Despite its presence on the market for several decades, it is still relatively unknown among people and is often associated with unjustified disapproval, especially in terms of fear of developing a stench and the placement of such "open" type devices in the immediate vicinity of buildings.

The project aims to raise awareness of the RČN and to promote them to ensure their recognition. The plant-based treatment plant will serve as an example of good practice for promotion purposes and as a "teaching aid" for the implementation of science days in primary schools and the implementation of various workshops. The plant will be additionally equipped with a composting bed and a decorative lagoon, so that it will represent a complete whole and will be integrated into the home environment as an advanced ecoremediation as a decorative element of the garden.

Project objectives:

  • Improving the attitude towards natural values in the area of the LAG "The Wealth of the Drava Countryside and Slovenske Gorice" and increasing their visibility.
  • Promoting innovative approaches to protecting the environment and nature.
  • Improve the inclusion of vulnerable groups in social and welfare activities in rural areas.

LAG Rural Wealth: Promoting sustainable energy development of agricultural holdings and tourist destinations – ENE-RAST

Project objectives:

  • Promoting innovative partnerships in the field of environmental protection and nature conservation by improving environmental and energy efficiency and introducing RES.
  • Carrying out awareness-raising activities about the importance of environmental protection and adaptation to climate change
  • Maintaining an innovative partnership in the field of energy renovation by increasing energy efficiency, introducing UE and other energy-efficient and innovative solutions and technologies
  • Within the framework of the project and through the operation of the partnership, we will contribute to the development of the local economy.
  • In the long term, awareness of climate change mitigation will increase, which will further lead to new investments in new energy-efficient devices, energy renovation and the use of RES.
  • At least 25 stakeholders will be actively involved in the project, which will be proven with an attendance list.

Operation ENE-RAST refers to the thematic area Environmental protection and nature conservation, to objective C6: Promoting the use of renewable sources and efficient energy use in rural and urban areas, measure U6: Adapting to climate change and strengthening innovative approaches in the field of natural resource management.

LAG UE Ormož: ENERGY AND ENVIRONMENTAL EFFICIENCY OF TOURIST DESTINATIONS – ENETUR

The partners of the ENETUR project will carry out a set of existing and future or potential tourist destinations in the area of municipalities covered by the project - the municipality of Ormož, Središče ob Dravi and the municipality of Sveti Tomaž. We will establish individual and, if necessary, group energy and environmental consulting for investors, owners and tenants of tourist destinations to increase energy efficiency, the possibility of integrating renewable energy sources with the aim of reducing energy costs, encouraging eco-remediation and thus approaching the principles of sustainable tourism. We will also specifically include the possibility of increasing the energy renovation of existing culturally protected buildings, as experts from the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Heritage will also participate in the project group. We will identify suitable buildings in public and private ownership that are suitable for energy renovation, connect with investors or owners and tenants and conducted joint workshops and individual consulting, which will include a tour of the facilities, examination of existing documentation, infrastructure, possibilities for reducing energy consumption through energy renovation of the building envelope, integration of renewable energy sources (wood biomass, photovoltaics, wind power generation, use of solar energy and integrated energy self-sufficiency systems, net metering, etc.). We will also include consulting on the possibilities of installing small treatment plants, either classic ones, or more specifically, we will study the possibilities of building plant-based treatment plants (so-called ecoremediation).

Project objectives:

  • Encouraging innovative partnerships in the field of environmental protection and nature conservation by improving environmental and energy efficiency and introducing RES in tourist destinations.
  • Increasing competitiveness and sustainable development of tourism infrastructure and tourism activities.
  • Carrying out awareness-raising activities about the importance of environmental protection and adaptation to climate change, on the one hand, for providers of tourist activities and accommodation capacities, and on the other hand, for citizens who will be directly or indirectly addressed and informed through the dissemination of information about the project and its results.
  • Maintaining an innovative partnership in the field of energy renovation by increasing energy efficiency, introducing UE and other energy-efficient and innovative solutions and technologies, between the municipalities of Ormož, Sveti Tomaž and Središče ob Dravi, the Institute for Tourism, Culture and Sports, the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Heritage and the IZER Institute.
  • Within the framework of the project and through the operation of the partnership, we will contribute to the development of the local economy and, above all, to the development of (eco or sustainable tourism - green economy.
  • The implementation of investments will reduce the use of non-renewable energy sources and increase energy self-sufficiency in the SLR LAS UE Ormož area and indirectly in the Republic of Slovenia and the EU.
  • In the long term, awareness of climate change mitigation will increase, which will further lead to new investments in new energy-efficient devices, energy renovation and the use of RES.
  • With the involvement of experts from the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Heritage, we will change the attitude towards old buildings, which will be preserved and offered for tourist purposes.
  • Encouraging investments in wastewater treatment plants, URE and RES. Together with investors, we will develop a demonstration energy investment project as a feasibility study and prepare an application for co-financing from various sources. We will also develop a model wastewater treatment plant project that can be implemented immediately, as such a facility does not require a building permit.

Lead partner: LEA Spodnje Podravje

Other partners: Municipality of Ormož and IZER – Institute for the Promotion and Implementation of Sustainable Environmental Protection Methods.

The total value of the operation is EUR 20,148.64.

The project duration is 12 months, starting in March 2018.
