Due to the issue of climate change, the European Commission has set the following targets: to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 20 %, to increase the share of renewable energy sources in total energy use by 20 % and to achieve an energy efficiency target of 20 % by 2020.

Directive 2012/27 – energy efficiency represents a breakthrough in European legislation. Objectives and tools for intervention and verification of implementation, obliges Member States to immediately adopt a clear strategy for improving the energy performance of buildings. The European directive requires that after 2020 all new buildings are zero energy buildings and these buildings will also be ZERO EMISSION BUILDINGS in terms of energy use. Currently, much attention is paid to measures to reduce emissions from new buildings, while existing buildings remain almost untouched and many renovation projects do not affect the reduction of emissions and thus the provision of low-emission buildings.

The goal of the ZEROCO2 project

Define zero CO2 emission buildings in terms of energy use and present the many advantages of these buildings;

To present combinations of different technologies and renewable energy sources that can be used to achieve the above goal;

Formulating policies that will influence the promotion of nearly zero-CO2 emission buildings at local, regional and national levels;

To present a number of financial tools for promoting these types of buildings.

This project will introduce and implement NEARLY ZERO CO2 EMISSION BUILDINGS IN RELATION TO ENERGY USE into the targeted policies to the same extent as for nearly zero energy buildings.
